Benefits:
Say you dont want some apps to know who you are, or you need more privacy to keep your device untracked, then you need to change the imei.
Say you are banned from accessing any app. You can simply change the imei of your device and access that app with a different imei.
Say you need to make a new account on any app from same device where multiple devices arent allowed, you need to simply change the imei of your device and then you can create another account!
Is it illegal?
The answer to this question is NO. But you should know why we are telling that NO.
Actually this process will randomize or change the imei of your device of your choice, but its only for the android apps installed on your device, not for the original hardware. It means, this process will only fake the android software to generate a new imei, keeping your original device hardware imei unchanged. Your sim cards etc will have the access to your original imei. You android apps will have access to that generated imei, not the original one, thereby making the app think that this device is new. You can simply restore your original imei as soon as you need. You should know that, changing that original IMEI is ILLEGAL, especially when you do it without the permission of the owner. For example, thieves trying to use a stolen phone by changing the imei. Hope you got the idea of what you are doing and how it may effect afterwards.

Ready to go?
1. Make sure your android device is rooted. It works only for rooted devices. If your device isnt rooted then you cannot try it. If you want to root your device, check the step by step guide here:

2. Installed Xposed Framework Module. Xposed framework is a great customizing tool for android. We need that for this operation. If you don’t have xposed framework, then install it. To get a step by step guide, check here: click here
3. Make sure Xposed Framework is properly installed.
4. Install Xposed IMEI Changer App from here: download
5. Open it and grant superuser permissions and activate it from xposed installer.
6. Reboot your device and open the Xposed IMEI Changer app. It will look something like this, refer to the image below.
7. Now type any random IMEI and click on Apply.
8. Reboot device.
9. Congrats you have sucessfully changed your imei.
Alternative Method: (More Customization)
The
previous app chamges only the imei, however, this second app can change
IMEI, Mac Address, IP Address, Android ID, Advertising Id etc
together.

4. Install Xprivacy from here: click here or you can also download Xprivacy installer from Google Play: click here We
prefer the first link as it will directly install the xprivacy app,
whereas the google play link is an installer, which will ultimately
download the same app from inside and install it on its own!
5. Activate it from Xposed Framework app. Reboot device.
6. Open Xprivacy. Grant superuser permissions if asked.
7. Click on Menu > Settings. It will open its settings.
8. Scroll down till you see this image below.
Here is a list of lots of configurations that you can randomize or type according to your own.
9. Click on Randomize.Reboot device.

Open Xprivacy. You will see an app list. It will display the list of
all installed apps. Click on any app and modify its settings according
to your wish, as you have already randomized imei, you can do
experiments

After you click on any app, you will see various options. Xprivacy is

Browse to your targetted app, that you want to bypass, click on it.
Click on Identification. And check the boxes to block access to identify
your device. These are the following custimization options available:
- return a fake Android ID
- return a fake device serial number
- return a fake host name
- return a fake Google services framework ID
- return file not found for folder /proc
- return a fake Google advertising ID
- return a fake system property CID (Card Identification Register = SD card serial number)
- return file not found for /sys/block/…/cid
- return file not found for /sys/class/…/cid
- return a fake input device descriptor
- return a fake USB id/name/number
13. Congrats, you can now do whatever you can and experiment with your fullest knowledge. Just use it smartly. Ultimately its your device and you know where to do what!
